Regulations

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Dutch Chess Federation (KNSB) are happy to welcome everyone to the FIDE World Youth U-16 Chess Olympiad in Eindhoven from 12 – 19 August 2023. The KNSB is the oldest Chess Federation worldwide and is very proud to host this Olympiad in the year dat we are celebrating our 150th anniversary. Very talented youth players from national teams from all over the world will participate.

Visa

E-visas can easily be obtained on the website of the Dutch government. If you are unsure whether you have to obtain a visa to get into the Netherlands, please fill in the questionnaire on the website of the Dutch government. Visit the website of the Dutch government here.

In case you will need assistance or a letter of invitation, our Team Services department is happy to assist you and/or guide you through the necessary websites or authorities.

Airports / transfers

There are multiple airports close to Eindhoven which you can fly to, they are listed below. From Eindhoven Airport and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport transfers will be provided by the organization.

The Netherlands is known for their world famous and safe public transport. It is safe to take the train and bus from and to the airport, hotel and city centre.

You can find information on the public transport on the website of the NS (Dutch Railways).

It is possible to book a train from Dusseldorf or Brussels to Eindhoven.

Hotel

Players and coaches will be accommodated at the Van Der Valk Hotel in Eindhoven. The hotel has 263 rooms and suits. The rooms are all spacious, equipped with sufficient storage space, a seating area, flat screen TV and a bathroom with a bath and/or (rain)shower.

The hotel is located less than 3 kilometers from the playing venue at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven (5 minutes by car, 25 minutes by foot). During competition dates, there will be shuttle services provided free of charge between the official hotel(s) and the playing venue.

It is possible to make use of the hotel services such as the swimming pool and fitness centre free of charge. Mini bar, laundry, room service, long distance and international phone calls, massage service, services offered in the hotel’s bar and lobby are chargeable. The organization of this event is not responsible for such additional costs.

If you wish to visit Eindhoven, several busses leave from a stop in front of the hotel. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the city centre. More information on visiting Eindhoven will be provided on this website soon.

Playing venue

The tournament will be played at the smartest square kilometer in Europe: the High Tech Campus Eindhoven. The campus is built around an ecosystem of 260 companies with a range of application fields. Home to over 12.500 innovators, researchers, engineers that create the technologies and business of tomorrow.
